The Workplace Ombudsman is increasing its scrutiny of many small to medium sized employers to ensure they comply with current legislative requirements over issues such as leave loading, 38 hour weeks and sick leave. Latest figures available show that their investigations have resulted in over $32 million being paid to almost 35,000 employees and in penalties being levied on SME employers or directors of almost $1 million.
