Your Strengths

You can do it well and enjoy doing it!

Your strengths are the clusters of skills and personal attributes that enable you to perform certain kinds of work effectively. The strengths are acquired through education and experience and represent your main assets in your job market.

It is necessary to know your strengths to make sure they are important to your target organisations and relevant to job roles you are seeking. People who are able to communicate how their strengths relate to a company’s objectives have more chances in gaining a desirable position and succeeding in it.

There are four kinds of things for you to keep in mind when identifying your strengths:

1. Things you can do: Employers will want to know what specific actions you can take, such as “organise an effective presentation”

2. Things you know: Employers will want to know your knowledge on the essentials for the job

3. Things that interest you: Employers will want you to enjoy your work because this positively relates to your performance

4. Roles you can play: Employers will want to know how you can combine skills, knowledge and personal attributes to successfully perform in your role

When identifying your strengths also consider the following:

  • What you do that not many people can do quite the way you do it
  • What your targeted employers will pay a significant attention to
  • How you can set yourself apart from others in your occupational field
  • How you can maintain your career advantage in the future

Transfer your strengths to your career map.
